Inspired by the amazing reference photo by Brenda de Jongste of Dutchrose Studio Photography reminding me of the time I spent in Africa on the Maasai Mara in search of these amazing cats. The original artwork was brought to life through a unique mixed media process, with an ancient technique called pyrography (aka wood burning) on live edge basswood. The image was further enhanced with acrylic paint for the background and some fur highlights and a hint of colored pencil to bring life to his eyes.
